The Yale Club of Hong Kong

Half a world from New Haven, a home for Yale in Hong Kong.

We exist to strengthen the bonds between graduates and friends of Yale University — and to keep Yale and its spirit thriving in Hong Kong.

  • 600+
    Alumni members
  • 15
    Yale schools represented
  • 130+
    Activities a year
  • YAA Excellence Awards

One of the most vibrant Yale clubs outside the United States.

Composed of over 600 alumni from most of Yale’s fifteen schools, the Yale Club of Hong Kong is a registered not-for-profit, run entirely by volunteers. None of our leaders is paid; the club runs on the generosity and enthusiasm of its members. What we share is simple — a Yale education, a love of Hong Kong, and a wish to stay connected.

The Yale Club of Hong Kong brings together enthusiastic Yale alumni living in one of the world’s most exciting cities. Our community represents the diversity and excellence that defines Yale.

A club hike — one of many ways the community gathers.

A hundred and thirty gatherings a year, all volunteered.

Nobody here is paid, and most of what fills the calendar was proposed by a member rather than planned by a committee. The year falls, as it long has, into four kinds.

Social
The Lunch Club, the hikes, the Ivy Ball, the Christmas party.
Intellectual
The speaker series, visiting Yale faculty, and standing discussions.
Artistic & musical
The Chamber Music Society, an original opera, art and museums.
Community service
Tree planting, kindness walks, the Yale Day of Service.

Yale, Hong Kong & China

A history few universities in the West can rival.

In 1854, Yung Wing became the first Chinese person to graduate from an American university — a Yale man who would send a generation of students west and seed Yale’s renowned East Asian collection. From the Yale-China Association to the annual Yale–New Asia exchange, that bond runs straight through Hong Kong, and through this Club.
