Membership

If you’re a Yalie and you’re in Hong Kong, you’re already one of us.

Membership is open and inclusive, and there is no fee to belong. One email to our Club Secretary puts you on the list and in the WhatsApp group.

Who can join

Membership is open to everyone below who is a resident of Hong Kong or has significant ties to the city.

Alumni & students

Yale alumni and current students of the University.

Faculty, fellows & visiting scholars

Yale faculty members, fellows, and visiting scholars.

Exchange & program alumni

Anyone who completed a college, graduate, or postgraduate program at Yale — including exchange students who spent at least one semester in New Haven.

Family & friends of Yale

Spouses, family, and friends of Yale are always welcome to come along to our events as your guests, and we are glad to see them. Membership itself is limited to the categories above, so guests are not added to the membership list or to the Club WhatsApp group.

What membership brings

Every member receives

  • A regular email newsletter with club news and event announcements
  • Invitations to all club events and activities
  • The Club WhatsApp community, where event news travels first
  • Networking across all schools and graduation years

Alumni members also enjoy

  • Voting rights at the Annual General Meeting
  • Eligibility to serve on the Board of Directors and as an officer of the Club
  • Priority registration for limited-capacity events

The simplest way in

You do not have to wait for an event.

Join the Lunch Club and you are paired at random with another member — old alumni with young, bankers with violinists, professors with lawyers — and the two of you simply go to lunch. It began with forty members. It now has over a hundred and thirty, and clubs in New York and Taipei have copied it.

For anyone newly arrived in Hong Kong, it is the fastest way to stop being new.

How to join & stay connected

Thank you for your interest in the Club. Three steps put you on the membership list and in the WhatsApp group.

  1. 1

    Email the Club Secretary

Write to Kathryn Lai at yalehkorg@gmail.com from your Yale or AYA email address, with “Membership” in the subject line. That address is what verifies you.

  2. 2

    Update your YAA address

Update your Hong Kong address with the Yale Alumni Association so you stay on our membership list and receive all communications.

  3. 3

    Join the WhatsApp group

Once you are verified we will add you to the Club WhatsApp chat, where event updates and everyday conversation live.

If you can’t verify by email

If you are not able to write to us from your Yale email address, or to update your Hong Kong address with the Yale Alumni Association, please let us know. We can check your name against the list of Yale alumni maintained by the University — though that verification may take one to three months.

New & visiting

Just arrived, or only passing through?

New to Hong Kong

Email our Club Secretary to get on the membership list and into the WhatsApp group, and update your Hong Kong address with the YAA. Then come to an event — we’d love to meet you. We offer orientation support, local insights, and a ready-made network across industries.

Just visiting

Yale alumni, faculty, students, and their guests are welcome at our events — no advance membership required. Check what’s on during your stay and contact the organizer with your Yale email to register.

Visiting faculty

We especially enjoy hosting visiting Yale faculty. If you’re planning a trip, contact our President to arrange a talk in our Speaker Series, share your expertise, and connect with local alumni in your field.
