The year in review · 2024
A president steps down after seven years.
Sam Wong SOM ’89 closed his seventh year as president by declining to stand again — “it is always good to bring in new blood and new energy” — and handed over to Carolyn Yeh, with a transition running through to March.

The year
- The Lunch Club reaches 134
- From 40 members, to 70, to 134 in three years — and copied since by clubs in New York and Taipei. “It is still going to take me another eight years to reach everybody.”
- Yale at its most distinguished
- Peter Salovey, then President of Yale; Amy Chua; Stephen Roach; Megan Ranney, Dean of the School of Public Health; Kerwin K. Charles, Dean of the School of Management; and Rocky Tuan, Vice-Chancellor of CUHK.
- Henry Steiner at M+
- M+ mounted a retrospective of the work of Henry Steiner, the Club's advisor and Hong Kong's foremost graphic designer, in the year of his ninetieth birthday.
- Music, and what came of it
- The Yale Blue Keys sang at President Salovey's event; Lora Chow gave a recital; and the discovery that Eddie Tam sings Cantonese opera led directly to the fusion production the Club would stage the following year.
- Four hikes and a sunset
- Tai Lam and Tai Tong, the Yuen Tsuen Ancient Trail, Wan Chai Gap and Jardine's Lookout, and South Lantau — the last ending at a member's house to watch the sun go down.
- Service
- Tree planting on Lantau, and Yale Day of Service kindness walks distributing food to Hong Kong's homeless.
